Reflecting on year one as a School Trustee

One year after becoming an elected School Trustee and it still feels surreal. I feel so lucky every day when I get to wake up and work hard to make education better for students in SD61, but I also feel the incredible weight of expectations and realize how much I still have left to learn.

Year one saw many issues come before the Board, predominantly the Boundry Review. The consultation was extensive and I have to hand it to our district and school based staff; they worked their butts off to try and be as inclusive as possible. I'm proud of the work we've done, especially that we took a very important breath when it came to preserving Victor School.

Now we move forward and look to our important work on inclusion, ensuring the new catchment areas are functioning as we intended, and continuing our efforts to improve student achievement, especially when considering First Nations students.

Our work as a Board continues, and I'm really excited about what's to come, what I'll learn, and how we can involve our stakeholders as we move forward.
